Khadija brightened her parents’ lives with her arrival between their arms. Her parents awakened from their happiness of having a child, only to face a harsh reality. Khadija was not as they had envisioned; she was not a healthy child. Instead, her body was ravaged by epidermolysis bullosa, commonly known as butterfly disease. Despite the delicate name, the disease was relentless against her skin. Complete recovery from this disease may be difficult. However, Tzu Chi played a pivotal role in alleviating the family’s pain and helping them overcome some of the burdens that weighed heavily on them, transforming those hardships into fleeting stations of hope that illuminated their path forward.
